Brummies Lookout (as the name promises) offers vast and rare views, namely of the sheer western cliff face of Wollumbin as well as panoramas of the Border Ranges.
Local lore tells a story of a logger by the name of Brummie who used climb this particular spot to spot the red cedar trees, referred to as ‘red gold’
The track is close by the very sweet little village of Tyalgum. It’s absolutely worth taking a visit into the village before or after your walk. Worthwhile visits include the cute and eclectic Orpheum bookshop and the very twee Flutterbies café.
The track takes 4 hours to complete. Only experienced hikers should attempt the final ascent.
Can this walk be accessed in a 2WD vehicle?
Hi DT,
Yes you can drive up to the National Park gate, park and walk from there. The last time I was there the very end of the road before the gate was very rough so I parked about 100 from the gate which was no problem.
I hope you enjoy it if you do get to do it. The views up there are spectacular.

be careful-i was misled up there this week-there are old pink ribbons that can lead you astray–when you walk in make sure you take the path on the left..we took the right, were attacked by ”wait a while”-could see the cliff of Wollumbin but never reached the grass trees on Brummies (I walked there 10 years earlier when owned by Forestries and track was maintained then….)..we ended up on another path on the other side of the lookout..
