Updates
Important Flood Update April 2022
Please note that many hinterland roads are currently CLOSED or open because they’re needed for local traffic, emergency vehicles and heavy machinery.
Unfortunately, now is not a good time to take a trip to our hinterland waterfalls and National Parks.
Many areas are extremely slippery and unsafe for vehicles, especially in the Upper Main Arm area on the way to Mt Jerusalem National Park and the waterfalls. Several local roads are now not suitable for 2 wheel drive.
Please stay away from these areas for your own safety and to assist Council and the community.
Please check the National Parks Alerts below or directly on the National Parks website before visiting.
National parks often adjoin private properties. Please respect privacy and stay within park boundaries.

Track Updates
~ Access to Red Road has changed. This road is no longer open to the public. This means walks 16, 49 & 50 are no longer accessible.
~ Parking is extremely limited at Hell’s Hole and there are no toilet or rubbish facilities. Please be prepared to (a) not find a park, and (b) bring a plastic bag to carry out all your rubbish. Please do not park across people’s driveways.
~ Walk 14: Koonyum Range Loop – The section of track leading to the hang gliding ramp goes through private property. Please respect the owner’s privacy by not venturing close to their house or camping in the area.
~ Parts of the Ballina Coastal track are now sealed.
~ Beach walks: Storms can carry away large amounts of sand. So if walking during high tide there may not be much beach to walk on. Keep this in mind when planning your walk. Check the tide information below.
